Kimpton’s Hotel Palomar Atlanta Midtown presents second “ARTlanta in Motion” Grant to Youth Ensemble of Atlanta

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

$1,000 Grant is Part of Program to Aid City Arts Organizations

ATLANTA – March 25, 2010 – Kimpton’s Hotel Palomar Atlanta Midtown is pleased to present the second “ARTlanta in Motion” grant to the Youth Ensemble of Atlanta (YEA). As a professional theatre company for youth that is committed to the socio-economic diversity of ensemble members and life-long relationships, YEA will apply the $1,000 contribution to the group’s scholarship training program.

“By working with Youth Ensemble, and particularly their core scholarship training workshop, we are able to touch the community that welcomed our hotel last year,” said General Manager Mark Fischer. “We support the program’s philosophy of empowering Atlanta youth to become catalysts for positive change through free training in music, dance and theatre.”

The grant, introduced when the hotel opened last year with an “Art in Motion” theme, aids Atlanta-based arts groups by providing financial resources to support programming. Funding is provided by a portion of sales from the hotel’s meeting rooms: the Woodruff, High, Alliance, Chastain and Rialto (all of which are named after city arts organizations). The first “ARTlanta in Motion” recipient was Moving in Spirit, a youth development program that uses dance to positively transform the lives of children and teens.

YEA is the south’s premiere African-American youth theatre company, which provides a cultural and creative outlet for the young people of Atlanta. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, YEA is comprised of more than 70 people ranging in ages eight to 24. The organization’s primary goal is to help develop youth with the skills and desire to succeed at whatever they do in life. Through ensemble activities, members develop self-esteem and confidence, explore the keys to problem solving, and learn to face the challenges in the world around them.

At a presentation at the hotel on March 25, YEA will perform two of their original songs, “Power of One” and “Changes,” for guests during the hotel’s hosted evening wine reception. The ceremony will conclude with Fischer’s presentation of the check.
