Three Distinctly Individual Wines will be available for purchase nationally on the e-commerce website: www.TheGrandeDalles.com beginning August 2010
New York, NY (August 23, 2010)—The Grande Dalles announced today the release of its e-commerce website, www.TheGrandeDalles.com, allowing customers to purchase the inaugural vintage directly, just in time for holiday deliveries. The inaugural vintage wines include 2009 Leroy’s Finest (100% riesling), $30, 50 cases produced; 2008 Gampo (sangiovese blended with cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc), $60, 80 cases produced; and 2008 Home Place (tempranillo blended with cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc), $60, 115 cases produced.
One of the most compelling reasons to purchase The Grande Dalles’ inaugural vintage is the discerning appeal and promise that this new vineyard and its wines have already shown, rare for first-time, producers. The response from recent pre-release previews with New York-based national media suggest The Grande Dalles as a new wine to watch; some even tout Leroy’s Finest bone dry riesling as the best in the country. Furthermore, from its very beginning, The Grande Dalles has demonstrated that it is so much more than the wine that is in the bottle; it’s the spirit within The Grande Dalles to go, seek and follow one’s dreams that provides a platform and community for wine enthusiasts and dreamers alike.
The Grande Dalles’ wines will be sold in mixed or single varietal packs of three, six and twelve bottles (one case). Packs of three Leroy’s Finest will be $90 ($30 per bottle) plus shipping and handling; while a mixed pack of three including Leroy’s Finest, Gampo and Home Place will be sold for $150 plus shipping and handling. Six and 12 bottle packs may be mixed, or not, per customer preference and priced according to total individual bottle price.
All 12-bottle or more purchases made by December 31st, 2010 will have a dedicated, custom paver created for the customer, for eventual placement at The Grande Dalles’ future facility which will serve as a full-experience wine destination. This permanent and personalized paver will recognize the individual’s belief in and support of The Grande Dalles’ launch.
The Grande Dalles is a small, family-run vineyard and wine producer located just east of The Dalles, Oregon in the Columbia Valley AVA. Husband and wife owners, Scott Elder and Stephanie LaMonica, struck out on this “(ad)venture” with little experience, only a small amount of money, but full of heart and soul, and hopes and dreams. In most ways having more money or experience would have made it easier, but Scott and Stephanie believe those conveniences would have taken them down the path of the expected. There is nothing expected about who they are, the grapes they grow, or the wine they make. The vineyard is farmed by Scott and Stephanie, and the wines they make do not emulate any other wine or region. They are very simply made to capture the essence of the land, the year, and the two people who struggled to bring it all together over the past five years. The back of each bottle hosts “Scott’s Recollections,” telling a personal reflection on the milestones of the family-run vineyard and the trials, tribulations, and rewards that come from owning a vineyard and creating wines.
The Wines. Individual and surprising, and made to please the senses and the mind. The grapes are harvested earlier bringing a focused complexity of minerality, earth, savoriness, forward tannins, and reticent fruit. Scott and Stephanie have always known the wines they would make would not be for everyone, but that was never the point.
The Grande Dalles invite customers to live through their wild journey, embrace their trials and celebrate the fruits of their handwork through their inaugural vintage.
